About EPR

The EPR Team
Established in 1989 Ecological Planning & Research is one of the UK’s leading ecological consultancies, lead by Directors Philip and Karen Colebourn, with a combined experience of over 50 years in ecology, planning, nature conservation, expert witness and ecological impact assessment.

Our team of over 30 professional highly-qualified, knowledgeable professionals possess a wide range of skills and experience, specialising in ensuring workable ecological solutions for projects of all sizes, and providing the highest quality advice to our clients.  All professional members of the team are qualified to degree level or above and all are members of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (IEEM).  We are able to field substantial project teams with the necessary skills to see successful outcomes for both our clients and ecology.

Our Ethic
EPR’s solid footing in both ecology and planning enables us to advise on all ecological aspects of development, conservation and research projects. At EPR we recognise that development is needed both for urban renewal, and to achieve the economic progress that funds all conservation activity. Development frequently involves ecological effects, but planning to offset such effects in advance often enables the development to proceed sustainably and without objection. Well-designed projects can achieve conservation enhancements as well as planning objectives.

We also understand the needs of developers, many of whom are our clients, and we work as an integral part of the project team to find solutions to identified problems. We regularly and effectively negotiate with bodies such as Natural England, The Environment Agency or the Local Planning Authority. EPR has firm roots in the planning process, and our experienced in-house team includes planners, and environmental assessors, who have had considerable experience of major development projects as well as local schemes.

Quality
EPR is committed to ensuring the highest standards of work and we hold Quality Assurance Accreditation to ISO 9001:2000, which we rigorously maintain. Our professional staff are members of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (IEEM), and we all adhere to the professional standards and Code of Conduct set out by the Institute.

EPR takes health and safety issues very seriously and our Health & Safety Policy is regularly reviewed. All staff are trained to appropriate levels and Risk Assessments are standard practice.
