EPR’s Anna Showan talks about the ecological work taking place at Boomtown on BBC’s The One Show

We’re delighted to share that Anna Showan, Consultant Senior Ecologist at EPR, was featured on BBC’s The One Show last night, talking about the ecological work taking place at Boomtown, the well-known music festival held at the Matterley Estate in the South Downs National Park.

With over 75,000 attendees visiting each year, Boomtown is a major event in the festival calendar. Speaking with The One Show was a great chance to highlight the work happening behind the scenes to understand and enhance the natural environment around the site. EPR has supported the Boomtown team and landowner, who joined Anna to share the wider story of how the festival is working alongside nature.

The project has included the creation of 1.7 hectares of on-site BNG through wildflower meadow creation, alongside wider habitat enhancements and long-term management planning.

A key focus has been understanding how the site can continue to support wildlife both during the festival and in the years beyond. This includes protecting existing habitats, supporting species such as breeding birds, enhancing grassland habitats, and considering how elements such as infrastructure and lighting can be designed with the ecology of the site in mind.

Boomtown is a great example of how collaboration and long-term thinking can help large-scale events create positive outcomes for both people and nature.
