Nurturing Nansledan: Applying Biodiversity Net Gain to a Local Development Order in Cornwall
In 2017, EPR was appointed by the Duchy of Cornwall to provide ecological support on the Nansledan project, involving the creation of around 4,000 homes, new jobs, infrastructure, and community facilities, over multiple phases, via a ‘Local Development Order’ (LDO).
EPR and the project team designed and delivered a 30+ha country park, called ‘Pras Trewolek’, to help avoid recreational pressure impacts on the SAC and provide a ‘bank,’ of Biodiversity Units (BUs), which future development phases, lasting approximately 20 years, can draw down as necessary.
